In February we attended the European Airshow Convention, with representatives of the industry, including the President of ICAS (International Council of Airshows, USA) who was one of the guest speakers.
Further to this meeting we are even more convinced that our approach of "Sport, Technique, Art and Culture in the air" must be continued.

1. FAI World Grand Prix™
The 2003 FAI World Grand Prix™ to be held at Twin Ring Motegi, Japan has now been registered in the FAI calendar of events.
This is the 6th FAI World Grand Prix to be held at the Twin Ring Motegi racing circuit and the event has become a “showcase” for the rest of the world.

When you combine an “unique” competition and the best pilots with an “unique” location and the best facilities, the result is something quite special!

2. Haute Voltige® Air Musical
Further to the European Airshow Convention we decided to cooperate with the organiser of the 27th Sanicole International Airshow and to perform the “Dreamings” Air Musical.

The Sanicole Airshow is the only civilian airshow in Belgium and will provide a great opportunity to promote “Dreamings” and the Haute Voltige pilots to a European audience.

4. FAI Website
The FAI have updated their website to now included a section devoted to the FAI World Grand Prix.
On the FAI Home Page, the World Grand Prix has moved to a more prominent position and has now its own section. In the pull-down menu, the Grand Prix link is now featured in the "other sections of the web site" menu.

We are in the process of re-vamping our website step by step and will inform you once it has been completed.

05 JUL – 2003 CHAMPION DU MONDE DE VOLTIGE – FREESTYLE

News de Lakeland, FL (USA). Félicitations à Victor TCHMAL (RUS) qui a terminé premier devant Mikhail MAMISTOV (RUS). Cependant puisque Victor a participé en tant qu'indépendant, il était "hors concours" et n'a pu être classé.

C'est donc Mikhail Mamistov qui est Champion du Monde de Voltige Freestyle 2003.

Haute Voltige
It is a private organisation founded in 1988 by J.L. Monnet, a former leader of the Patrouille de France when he decided to leave the Air Force and promote Air Sports world wide.
Since then we have held 45 international events in Europe, America and Asia, paving the way to Japan (7 events) and P.R. China (13 events in 13 provinces / main cities).

Haute Voltige produces 3 different types of spectacular shows:

A sporting event: The FAI World Grand Prix, an official international aerobatic competition open to solo and formation teams flying to music, and sanctioned by the FAI (Federation Aeronautique Internationale).

Haute Voltige Specials to promote precision flying with top pilots, performed in accordance to the laws of each country, with the permission of the Civil Aviation Authorities (flights under bridges or through a natural cave, for example). Some people call this type of flying “stunts”, we call it “professional precision flying” because it requires serious practice and preparation with trained top level pilots.

The HV Specials also include our Ultimate Challenge: The Race which is a race against time involving solo pilots only, in a programme mixing horizontal pylon racing and vertical aerobatic figures. It’s a harmonious relation between excitement, sports, and technique.

Haute Voltige Air Musicals, similar to theatre acts with pilots and aircraft flying a story to music. This is our mix of sports, technique, art and culture.

And Virtual Haute Voltige, our latest development with a competition for virtual Formation Teams.

Air Musical
The first flight of the Wright Brothers was 100 years ago. Unfortunately, due to WWI, aircraft very quickly lost the statute of “piece of art” and “sport machine” to become tools for transporting and delivering people, freight or armament.
Since then the destiny of aircraft did not change because it is where (transport and wars) the business was organized and fruitful.
After 100 years of public celebrations of heroes or machines, Haute Voltige thought it was time to consider aircraft as a tool for creativity, blending the mathematical precision of music to an artistic emotion.

Therefore, unlike traditional airshows, the Air Musical will not celebrate a pilot, nor a machine, but the Art of Flying, performed by great actors.
Yes, actors are skilled pilots and brilliant aircraft, supported by musicians and all the ground staff who make the show happen, but the Star is simply “Flying”.

Dreamings
Dreamings is an eternal story about life and death, dream and war, show and happiness, involving sharks, dolphins and a mermaid. insert link to detailed story

The original music score was composed by Patricia Leidig (Germany) and Pedro Toro (Spain) who are the two members of the Spanish group “Almadrava”. http://www.almadrava.com

Dreamings is a word of the Aboriginal mythology in Australia. It relates to the Dreamtime (period of the creation) and to characters like the Snake Dreaming, the Rainbow Dreaming, the Dolphin or the Shark Dreaming, and so on… (more info below).

An Indigenous Australian told me one day that reality was what was happening during our dreams, and that what we lived during the day was just a bluff...
Stupidly, I laughed…
And we finally wrote “Dreamings”, the Air Musical…

More about Dreaming and Dreamtime

The expression 'Dreamtime' is most often used to refer to 'the time of the creation of all things', while 'Dreaming' is often used to refer to an individual's or group's set of beliefs or spirituality.
For instance, an Indigenous Australian might say that they have Kangaroo Dreaming, or Shark Dreaming, or Honey Ant Dreaming, or any combination of Dreamings pertinent to their 'country'. However, many Indigenous Australians also refer to the creation time as 'The Dreaming'.

What is certain is that 'Ancestor Spirits' came to Earth in human and other forms and the land, the plants and animals were given their form as we know them today.
These Spirits also established relationships between groups and individuals, (whether people or animals) and where they traveled across the land, or came to a halt, they created rivers, hills, etc., and there are often stories attached to these places.

Once their work was done, the Ancestor Spirits changed again; into animals or stars or hills or other objects. For Indigenous Australians, the past is still alive and vital today and will remain so into the future. The Ancestor Spirits and their powers have not gone, they are present in the forms into which they changed at the end of the 'Dreamtime' or 'Dreaming', as the stories tell.

The Australian Aborigines speak of jiva or guruwari, a "seed power" deposited in the earth. In the Aboriginal world view, every meaningful activity, event, or life process that occurs at a particular place leaves behind a vibrational residue in the earth, as plants leave an image of themselves as seeds. The shape of the land - its mountains, rocks, riverbeds, and waterholes - and its unseen vibrations echo the events that brought that place into creation. Everything in the natural world is a symbolic footprint of the metaphysical beings whose actions created our world. As with a seed, the potency of an earthly location is wedded to the memory of its origin. The Aborigines called this potency the "Dreaming" of a place, and this Dreaming constitutes the sacredness of the earth. Only in extraordinary states of consciousness can one be aware of, or attuned to, the inner dreaming.

The Dreamtime, that happy period of earlier days, is well known. It was a halcyon era when the world, and mankind, and all created things, were young. There was a natural innocence in this period when animals were still like men. The interchange of form between man and animal is often puzzling, and there are times when we cannot be sure whether the hero or the villain of a story is a man or an animal.
Often enough, of course, the purpose of the tale is to relate how the animal gained its special characteristics and changed from a two-legged mammal to a bird, a lizard, or an animal. More important still is the connection with the origins of totemism, which was such an important feature of family and tribal life.

After a world premiere in Japan, it will be the first performance of the Haute Voltige Air Musical “Dreamings” in Europe.

• Peter BESENYEI and his Extra 330L, Hungarian national champion, 2000 freestyle World Aerobatic Champion, winner of the FAI World Grand Prix series in 1999 and 2001.
• Klaus SCHRODT and his Extra 300S, German national champion, 2001 Freestyle World Aerobatic Champion, winner of the 2002 FAI World Grand Prix Series.
• Nikolay TIMOFEEV and his Sukhoi 26, Gold medal at several World Aerobatic Championships, a great FAI World Grand Prix Champion, a Russian national now living in Florida with his family.
• Pascale ALAJOUANINE and her Cap 232.  She is the current French Aerobatic Champion, also winning in 1995, 1996, 2000 and 2001. She was twice European Champion 1995-2002.  Pascale is the mother of a 25-year-old son and holds a career as an optician. Besides aerobatics, Pascale enjoys cooking, shopping, music, reading, skiing and cycling.

Formation Teams:

• APACHE (5XL39)  Flying the only jet team of the Musical, APACHE also flew the FAI World Grand Prix in PR China and in Japan with 3xSU26 aerobatic aircraft, winning the 2002 FAI World Grand Prix Series. This is a special appearance, a friendly support from Apache (Jacques BOTHELIN, leader, Philippe LALOIX, François PONSOT, Bernard CHARBONNEL, Christophe DEKETELAERE) to Haute Voltige.
• FLYING BULLS AEROBATIC TEAM (4xZLIN 50LX).  Winners of the FAI World Grand Prix Series in 1999, 2001 and 2002. The first aerobatic team with a woman as a leader and males as wingmen. Composed of 3 Czech pilots and one Slovak: Radka MACHOVA (leader), Miroslav KREJCI (right), Jiri SALLER (left) and Daniel POLONEC (slot).
• SPACE KNIGHTS (2XACROEZE).  Flying temporarily with two VariEze modified for Aerobatics, the Space Knights programme is displayed by Ral WEBER the leader and Richard KUSAK, with Frederic SCHWEBEL as a spare.

11 AUG – DREAMINGS HAUTE VOLTIGE AIR MUSICAL - UNE PREMIERE EUROPEENNE

En dépit de la température atteignant les 44° Celsius à l'intérieur de la tour de contrôle (rendons grâce à l'attitude si coopérative des contrôleurs militaires et du directeur des vols qui ont su diriger avec souplesse un show plutôt complexe), les spectateurs se sont rendus avec plaisir à Hechtel (B) et l'Aéroclub de Sanicole.

Dans l'après-midi, "Dreamings" était présenté pour la première fois à un public Européen, et pour marquer l'occasion, un Alpha Jet de l'Armée de l'Air Belge exécuta une spectaculaire ouverture du show avec son "vol du dauphin".
Un vol tout à fait approprié puisque Mandurah le Dauphin est le héros de l'histoire, et que l'Alpha Jet a on ne peut plus le profil de l'animal...
En outre, les quatre Albatros L39 de l'équipe Breitling (Apache Aviation) ont élégamment rejoint le tableau en complément de nos champions de voltige, des ULM et des avions anciens.

Almadrava, les compositeurs espagnols de la musique, étaient sur les lieux pour admirer 26 pilotes de 9 pays différents voler sur leur oeuvre, réhaussée par la voix magnifique du conteur flamand...
Grâce à l'habileté et au professionalisme des pilotes, l'histoire fut merveilleusement choréographiée, avec parfois 10 avions impliqués dans la même scène, et ce dans l'environnement le plus respectueux de la sécurité des vols.

Au milieu des brillants vols de démonstrations du F16 ou du Tornado, et de l'exceptionnelle performance de la Patrouille de France, Haute Voltige et son "Air Musical" sont fiers d'avoir suscité un intérêt similaire du public pour les performances d'avions "légers", prouvant ainsi la réalité d'une nouvelle approche pour de nouveaux types de spectacles aériens.

Merci à Gilbert Buekenberghs, l'organisateur et heureux directeur de l'Aéroclub de Sanicole, un lieu extraordinaire pour accueillir des événements aériens uniques et originaux.

11 SEP – ILS SONT LES MEILLEURS ET ILS PEUVENT LE PROUVER !

Tous les vainqueurs du Championnat de Monde 2003 participeront au 2003 Haute Voltige Aerobatics Japan Grand Prix:

Svetlana KAPANINA, la meilleure femme pilote de voltige de tous les temps, classée seconde toutes catégories (oui, hommes inclus!). Championne du Monde pour la 4ème fois (1996, 1998, 2001, 2003) elle est sans précédent dans l'histoire de la voltige. Certes, Betty Stewart (USA, en 1980 et 1982) et Catherine Maunoury (FRA, en 1988 et 2000) ont été deux fois Championnes du Monde chez les femmes, et Petr Jirmus (CZE) deux fois chez les hommes. Mais seule Svetlana Kapanina a atteint le record de 4 titres au classement general, et ce n'est probablement pas fini.

Sergey RAKHMANIN, Champion du Monde 2003 toutes catégories et Alexander KROTOV, médaille d'argent dans la catégorie hommes.

Viktor TCHMAL (Champion du Monde 1996) et Mikhail MAMISTOV (Champion du Monde 2001) gagnent le titre du Libre Intégral.

Svetlana FEDORENKO, médaille de bronze chez les femmes.

Si l'on ajoute les stars de la voltige que sont Klaus SCHRODT, Champion du Monde Libre Intégral 2001, Peter BESENYEI, Champion du Monde Libre Intégral 2000, Jurgis KAIRYS et Nikolay TIMOFEEV, Haute Voltige ne pouvait présenter au public de talents plus extrêmes pour les vols les plus excitants. Tous sont des champions sportifs qui sont également de brillants pilotes de démonstration et de spectacle. Ils peuvent le prouver.

01 OCT – 2003 HAUTE VOLTIGE AEROBATICS JAPAN GRAND PRIX

Held every year since 1998, the Haute Voltige Aerobatics Japan Grand Prix is the showcase for the FAI World Grand Prix, an aerobatic competition of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the world airsports federation. In 2002, the spectators reached a total of 50,000.
The 2003 Haute Voltige Aerobatics Japan Grand Prix will be held from 31 October to 2 November inclusive at Twin Ring Motegi, Japan (130 km North-East of Tokyo).
Its highlight will be the 19th FAI World Grand Prix featuring 50 pilots from 16 different nationalities, including Grand Prix champions like Peter Besenyei (HUN), Jurgis Kairys (LTU) and Klaus Schrodt (GER), the 2001 and 2003 World Aerobatic Champions, as well as the Flying Bulls and the Matadors Formation Teams.
Svetlana Kapanina, the best ever.

A special award will be made to Svetlana Kapanina who is the first pilot ever to win a World Champion title more than twice and deserves the award of best female aerobatic pilot in history.
In June, at the World Aerobatic Championships held in Florida (USA), she was awarded her 4th title in the female category (1996, 1998, 2001, 2003) and, for the first time ever, a woman was ranked No. 2 overall (including men).
At the age of 34, an age where most men are lucky to have been selected more than once for their national team, let alone reaching the podium, Kapanina became a legendary figure of Aerobatics.
Before her, only Betty Stewart (USA, 1980, 1982), Petr Jirmus (CZE, 1984, 1986) and Catherine Maunoury (FRA, 1988, 2000) had been World Champions twice.

Two Programmes in the 2003 FAI World Grand Prix
The first programme, "Technique and Precision" will be composed of figures defined by each competitor and flown by all others without any rehearsal.
The second programme "Artistic Creativity" will be the masterpiece 4-minute freestyle to music for solos, 10 to 12 minutes for formation teams.
Launch of the World Grand Prix Virtual category
Commencing in 2004, the World Grand Prix Virtual competitions for Formation Teams and Solos will be introduced. This new initative will be launched at Motegi by way of a live demonstration by the Virtual Haute Voltige Team, a virtual formation team of 5 aircraft.

Apart from the FAI World Grand Prix competition flights, the audience will certainly be thrilled by the extra attractions :

	The Haute Voltige Time Challenge : an individual race against time at low altitude over a defined circuit in front of the public audience, and including some aerobatic figures.
	Haute Voltige Specials : combined flights to music performed by solos and teams.

23 – 31 OCT – NEWS FROM TWIN RING MOTEGI

All aircraft travelled by sea, they have just been through customs clearance in Japan, Haute Voltige staff and technicians will depart home in the next couple of days.
Aircraft will be delivered at Twin Ring Motegi on Monday 27th, technicians will then start reassembly.

The test flights took place today without any problem after dissipation of the fog...Tomorrow, it's practice flight and weather is forecast to be good.

Blue sky, sunshine and warmth were the perfect conditions met today during the practice flights. Pilots practiced the time challenge programme as well as their respective competition programme to music. Tomorrow is the Official practice day which will be also the first public day.

An accident happened during the Haute Voltige Time Challenge.
The Russian pilot Alexandre Krotov, 36 years old, survived the crash of his aircraft and has been taken to hospital. The aircraft is destroyed, and an inquiry is under way to determine the causes of the accident.
The crash happened in the display area, out of the public zone. No other person was involved.
TRM decided to cancel the event further to the advice of the Civil Aviation Bureau.

 

31 OCT – ACCIDENT 10:31 am HEURE JAPONAISE

Un accident est arrivé pendant le Haute Voltige Time Challenge.
Le pilote Russe Alexandre Krotov, 36 ans, a survécu le crash de son avion et a été transporté à l'hopital. L'avion est complètement détruit et une enquête est encours pour déterminer les causes de l'accident.
L'accident a eu lieu dans la zone de démonstration. Aucune autre personne n'a été blessée.

 

03 NOV – LE SHOW N'A PAS REPRIS

Le show n'a pas repris, le 19ème FAI World Grand Prix a été annulé.
Alexandre est toujours en soins intensifs mais son état général s'améliore de jour en jour d'une manière incroyable. Son bras droit, sa cheville droite et sa clavicule gauche cassés, ont été fixés avec succès, tous ses membres bougent.
Il a toutes les chances de devenir un pilote très chanceux.

 

05 NOV – SORTI DES SOINS INTENSIFS

Nous sommes heureux d'annoncer qu'Alexandre est maintenant sorti des soins intensifs, sa femme est à ses côtés et son rétablissement est beaucoup plus rapide que prévu.

 

10 NOV – BIEN PROGRESS

Alexandre Krotov a définitivement rejoint la Famille des Pilotes Chanceux. Toujours à l'hopital au Japon, il peut maintenant parler et rigoler, demandant de la viande et de la bière ou - pourquoi pas - un Cognac.

L'enquête officielle est toujours en cours, ce qui peut être lu ci et là sur les causes de l'accident doit être considéré à l'heure actuelle comme de la pure fiction.

 

17 NOV – DERNIERES NOUVELLES D'ALEXANDRE KROTOV

Les dernières nouvelles d' Alexandre Krotov sont bonnes. C'est maintenant une question de rééducation avant de pouvoir retourner en Russie, et le temps restant pourrait se compter en semaines, non en mois.

Le jour de l'accident n'était certainement pas son heure, mais il est temps d'être reconnaissant envers les docteurs et infirmiers qui l'ont assisté dans les premières secondes, minutes et heures après l'accident.

En commençant par le docteur de Haute Voltige, qui n'aurait pas pu être plus près du lieu de l'accident alors qu'il prenait des photos face à l'avion. Fort d'une grande expérience en unités d'urgence avec le SAMU Français et Europe Assistance, il était auprès du pilote seulement 70 secondes après l'accident, juste avant les Services d'Urgence de Twin Ring Motegi, qui sont arrivés avec ambulance et brancard, 30 secondes plus tard.

Donc moins de 100 secondes après que l'avion ait été stoppé par les pneus de protection, Alexandre était entre les mains de docteurs talentueux.
Il a été emmené au centre médical du circuit, puis à l'hopital par hélicoptère.
Les spécialistes Japonais exécutèrent un sauvetage rapide et on se demande si le résultat final aurait été le même si l'accident avait eu lieu dans un autre environnement, moins bien équipé, n'importe où dans le monde.

Il est clair que la chance a joué un grand rôle dans ce happy ending, mais pas seulement. Les employés de Twin Ring Motegi sont des professionnels expérimentés dans les Sports Mécaniques, et qui sont habitués à gérer des accidents graves. Cela a été sans aucun doute un extra bonus.

 

23 NOV – COMMUNIQUE HAUTE VOLTIGE

Suite aux rumeurs, Haute Voltige tient à rassurer les organisateurs potentiels et tous ceux concernés, qu' Alexandre Krotov, le pilote blessé au Japon durant l'entraînement, n'a jamais été abandonné. Malgré l'absence d'assurance, pour laquelle seul le pilote devrait être tenu responsable, Haute Voltige a immédiatement décidé d'assister financièrement ce pilote FAI World Grand Prix .

Tous les frais d'hospitalisation et dépenses médicales au Japon, coûts associés inclus (transport de la famille, interprète et hébergement), seront partagés par Haute Voltige et Sukhoi Design Bureau. Le constructeur d'avions Russe prendra également en charge le rapatriement du pilote et le traitement médical en Russie.

Haute Voltige prend cette opportunité pour signifier sa gratitude au Sukhoi Design Bureau pour leur soutien d'un pilote du World Grand Prix.

Tous les fonds réunis par les amis d'Alexandre via Internet seront plus que bienvenus par sa famille, pour compenser les pertes de revenus durant sa reéducation en Russie. Merci aux généreux donateurs .

Haute Voltige continuera ses opérations avec les meilleurs pilotes de voltige, y compris le FAI World Grand Prix.

 

27 NOV – NOUVEAU REGLEMENT POUR LE FAI WORLD GRAND PRIX

La Commission Internationale de Voltige Aérienne (CIVA), a décidé lors de son dernier meeting annuel (10 Nov. 2003) de rédiger un nouveau règlement pour le FAI World Grand Prix.

Ce nouveau règlement est attendu dans les prochains jours et sera valide dès 2004.

Les changements concerneront uniquement la catégorie voltige solo (avions avec moteur à piston et moteur à hélice) et affecteront seulement la compétition FAI World Grand Prix pour les pilotes solos.

Les autres produits de Haute Voltige (la compétition FAI World Grand Prix pour patrouilles et jets, les HV Air Musicals, HV Specials et Virtual HV) ne sont pas concernés par ces changements.

A. Krotov quittera l'hôpital au Japon et sera rapatrié en Russie où il subira un programme complet de réeducation.

Ce sera notre premier événement aux EMIRATS et HAUTE VOLTIGE sera fière d'explorer un territoire nouveau pour la promotion de Compétitons de Voltige Internationales.

16 DEC – 2004 AL AIN AEROBATIC AIR SHOW

HH SHAIKH SULTAN BIN TAHNOON AL NAHYAN a officiellement annoncé le 2004 AL AIN AEROBATIC AIRSHOW qui se tiendra du 02 au 06 Février, lors d'une Conférence de Presse à Al Ain (EAU) le 14 décembre dernier.Organisé par AL AIN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND TOURISM PROMOTION AUTHORITY avec le soutien de l'Armée de l'Air et plusieurs partenaires, cet événement sera comprendra des représentations de voltige aérienne, le 2004 AL AIN HAUTE VOLTIGE WORLD GRAND PRIX avec:

• Le FAI WORLD GRAND PRIX (20ème), pour la première fois aux Emirats, et pour la première fois également, une compétition dans la catégorie Jet;
• "Dreamings" AIR MUSICAL;
• L'équipe Virtual Haute Voltige.

Pour le FAI World Grand Prix, les applications pour les avions à hélice et les pilotes sont déjà closes (8 solos, 3 patrouilles), mais la catégorie Jet est toujours ouverte avec pour le moment 3 solos et 3 patrouilles.
A l'heure actuelle, les applications reçues de ATLAS AEROSPACE sont:

• 3 pilotes solo (L39, MIG29, SU27)
• la patrouille SWIFTS 2xMig29
• la patrouille RUSSIAN KNIGHTS2xSU27
• la patrouille RUSS7xL39.

 

18 DEC – LES SERIES FAI HAUTE VOLTIGE WORLD GRAND PRIX

Les nouvelles SERIES FAI HAUTE VOLTIGE GRAND PRIX commenceront le 1er Janvier 2004 et s'achèveront le 31 Décembre 2005.
Ouvertes aux avions à hélices et aux jets, aux pilotes solos et aux patrouilles, aux compétiteurs civils et militaires, ces séries délivreront un titre de Champion du Monde homologué par la FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale), l'organisation internationale en charge de tous les sports aériens.

SELECTION DES PILOTES

Les pilotes civils peuvent être soit présentés par des constructeurs d'avions (comme pilotes d'essais), soit sélectionnés parmi les meilleurs pilotes du Championnat du Monde de Voltige Freestyle, réglementé par la Commission Internationale de Voltige Aérienne (CIVA) de la FAI.
Les présélections pour les pilotes qui ne sont pas pilotes d'essais, devraient se faire dans chaque pays où la CIVA est représentée, à travers un CHALLENGE ROUND, ouvert aux pilotes de voltige traditionnelle ainsi qu'aux pilotes de shows aériens.
La liste finale des "Challengers" sera ensuite opposée aux "Haute Voltige Defenders" pour le titre de Champion du Monde de Voltige Freestyle (en 2005) et pour que chaque pilote puisse obtenir sa place dans l'équipe des "Haute Voltige Defenders" pour la Série 2006-2007.

Les pilotes militaires sont sélectionnés par leur Armée de l'Air .
