Haute
Voltige Champions
fighting the spirit of gravity
Further
to the Lausanne event, our final contest of the year 2005,
we would like to underline the global results of the FAI World
Grand Prix for aircraft with piston engines. This was our first
category, launched ten years ago at a time when aerobatic pilots
had many difficulties in securing sponsors.
Unfortunately, these times are still running for the Russian
pilots, although they are unmatched in classical aerobatics.
Svetlana Kapanina , the best ever, 5-time world aerobatic champion,
Sergey Rakhmanin, 2-time world champion, Mikhail Mamistov or
Viktor Chmal, all of them have records which are unbeaten
by our Haute Voltige champions specialised in freestyle programmes
, more oriented towards creativity.
Now, thanks to the FAI World Grand Prix, most of the Haute Voltige
champions are sponsored and famous in the world of sport
aerobatics, as well as the not so demanding but more
popular airshow circuit.
And, thanks to these great pilots, Haute Voltige could organise
FAI World Grand Prix events during the last 10 years.
So, let's celebrate our champions!
Series 2004-2005
1.
Jurgis KAIRYS (LTU) 30 points
2.
Klaus SCHRODT (GER) 26 points
3.
Peter BESENYEI (HUN) 24 points
ACE of ACES - The TOP of the PROPS...
At the end of our first decade and after 22 contests, we can
now tell who is our top champion. By winning Lausanne,
Peter BESENYEI joined up with Jurgis KAIRYS, sharing the title with 7
victories each.
Both are strong personalities, two different styles, two fierce
competitors, two characters, but also two maestros understanding
what is flying to music and two showmen able
to perform for the pleasure of their audience.
Challengers, you now know who you have to beat! No bluff, these
two guys do not only say they are the best, they are
still able to prove it!
And let's award a special mention to KAIRYS who, in addition,
built his own aerobatic aircraft, only with the modest private
means of a passionate man fully dedicated to flying.
Regarding Formation Teams, a category open in 1998 for piston
engines and 2004 for jet engines, we wish you to enjoy the same
pleasure as we do when we watch our champions:
1. MATADORS (GBR), our two airline
captains who are in the lead, just a fraction ahead of:
2. FLYING BULLS
(CZE), the top of inverted flying in close formation with 4
aircraft, the first aerobatic team with a woman as
a leader;
3. SPACE KNIGHTS (FRA) two former fighter pilots who have the courage to
compete with the only two VariEze authorised to perform aerobatics, the
underpowered (for formation flying) but original and nice-looking homemade
kit developed by Burt Rutan, the designer who sent the
first private spaceship beyond the atmosphere.
WHAT NEXT?
As
you may know, organising anything is always expensive, time
and energy consuming. Of course Haute Voltige does not
have the means of wealthy private companies organising
their own marketing events but the FAI World Grand Prix will
still be in the news, from time to time, as “the Competition
for World Champions”, an official international sporting
event sanctioned by the FAI, involving music with solo
pilots and formation teams, piston engines, turboprops and
jet aircraft.
Our next event will be the 23rd FAI World Grand Prix to be held
at Al Ain, UAE, 11-15 January 2006.
We have been told there would be more teams and more jets
over the marvellous desert landscape...
See you there, a nice place for holidays! |

Lausanne, the end of a Magical Decade of the FAI WORLD GRAND
PRIX
First
times are always magical... Lausanne 2005 will end the 1st
decade of the FAI World Grand Prix. The event will determine
not only the winner of the leg and the winner of the series
2004-2005, but also the winner of the decade 1996-2005, the "Ace of Aces", the
best pilot/formation team of the FAI World Grand Prix for
the last 10 years.
Jurgis Kairys (7 victories since
1996, 22 points in the 2004-2005 series) is currently in pole
position for the supreme title in the solo pilot category
but Peter Besenyei (6 victories,
12 points) and Klaus Schrodt
(2 victories, 16 points) are close behind should he make a
mistake.
For their first appearance in the Grand Prix Nicolas
Ivanoff and Pierre Marmy could very well challenge the "Masters" for winning
the Lausanne Event.
As for the formation teams, Matadors
(4 victories, 20 points) are ahead for now but Flying
Bulls (4 victories, 14 points) and Space
Knights (0 victory, 14 points) just intend to step
in, of course!
Lausanne will be the opportunity to see the first appearance
of the Hawks, from Romania, who
come here just to win.
All national formation teams (Royal Jordanian
Falcons, PC-7 Team, Patrouille Suisse) and jet teams (Breitling
Jet Teams) do not compete for the title of the Series in this
first Decade.

The
Clash of the Titans
Lausanne
26 - 28 August, will be the last event of the first decade
of the FAI World Grand Prix (founded in 1996).
For
this special event, the FAI Centenary Airshow (the FAI was
founded in 1905), 100 aircraft are scheduled, be prepared
to be entertained...
The
FAI World Grand Prix is not a competition just based
upon pure technique but on artistic creativity, flying to
music... At Lausanne it will feature the most
spectacular and creative Haute Voltige competitors
of the last ten years: Peter Besenyei
(HUN), Jurgis Kairys (LTU)
and Klaus Schrodt (GER). They
will be challenged by Nicolas Ivanoff
(FRA) and Pierre Marmy (SUI).
In
addition to famous military pilots and aircraft that include
the PC-7 Team and Royal
Jordanian Falcons, the Flying
Bulls (CZE), Matadors
(GBR) and Space Knights
(FRA) will be challenged by the Hawks
(ROM) in their race for the supreme title.
On
Friday 26th, don't forget
to wander along the lake at Lausanne-Ouchy between 7 and
8 pm. For there you will see the only jet
displays of the week-end (Breitling
Jet Team and Patrouille Suisse).
You will also have the pleasure to hear the music of Lily
Horn Is Born, the female Swiss Saxophone Quartet
who composed our Air Musical "The Call of the Skies" and
who will perform live on the terrace of the Olympic Museum.
